Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
Dirty projectors are an experimental indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Currently they consist of six members who are led by vocalist / guitarist Dave Longsreth. The band originated in 2002 when Longstreth released the fist album “The Graceful Fallen Mango”, under his own name, in 2005 the Dirty Projectors label was steadily established with the release of “The Glad Fact”. The album “Bitte Orca” was released on 9 June 2009 and in German the phrase “Bitte Orca” means “Please Killer Whale”. The only explanation given for the choice of the title name is that Longstreth said that he likes the way that the words sound together. The album cover resembles their 2004 album “Slaves’ Graves and Ballads”, with band members Amber Coffman and Angel Deradoorian. Deradoorian also has a solo project, Armenian, which is her last name and she released an EP in 2005.
The vocal power of the album “Bitte Orca” is amazing, out of the six band members three are involved with vocals. Longstreth features on most songs with his high strung aerobatic voice but Coffman and Deradoorian play a very important role with their backup vocals and harmonization. The album contains a mixed melody of powerful guitars, drums, bass, keyboards and vocals. Most songs are heavily lined with brilliant guitar work while the keyboards also prove to be rather dominant. On this album you will not get melodic pop tunes but instead an insane mixture of varying guitar riffs, beats and melodies. Songs tend to jump from beat to beat and often the music’s tempo, changes in the middle of a song. A couple of songs which really gets under a listeners skin is Stillness is the Move, Two Doves and Useful Chamber. Dirty Projectors set out to make a good album but instead ended up with an extraordinary one, one which is hard to classify in one genre or even several for that matter, an album that has reached a level of uniqueness that most artists will only ever strive achieve.

Definition:
In popular music, independent music, often shortened to indie music or "indie", is a term used to describe independence from major commercial record labels and an autonomous, Do-It-Yourself approach to recording and publishing.
Independent labels have been known to strive for minimal influence on the artist they represent, avoiding the artist-cultivating behavior of many major labels.
